주문 및 요청 전달하기
주문이나 요청을 전달하고 싶을 때는 'tell'과 같은 동사와 to-절을 사용할 수 있습니다: He told me to go away. 이것은 동사 + 간접 목적어 + to-절 패턴입니다. 간접 목적어는 전달되고 있는 사람입니다. 이런 식으로 주문 및 요청을 전달하기 위해서 사용되는 다른 동사들은 다음과 같습니다: command, order, warn, ask, advise, invite, beg, teach, 그리고 forbid.

목적어에 대한 요청
목적어에 대한 요청은 "asked for" + 목적어 패턴으로 전달됩니다.

제안
제안은 자주 that 절이 뒤따르는 suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, 그리고 propose와 같은 동사를 사용하여 전달됩니다. 'That'과 'should'는 아래 첫 두 예들에서 보이듯이 이 절에서는 선택적입니다. suggest, recommend, 그리고 propose는 또한 간접 목적어(제안의 수신자)를 제거하고 그럼으로서 제안을 좀 더 정중하게 만들기 위해서 동명사가 다음에 올 수 있다는 것에 유의하세요. 동명사의 이 용법은 아래 네번째와 다섯번째 예들에 묘사되어 있습니다.
